Inspiration
Sending money is fast, but trust is often an afterthought. I was inspired by the gap between a person’s real financial reliability and what a recipient sees at the moment of a transfer—usually just a name, phone number, or account detail. I created Sound & Clear to make that decision moment safer, clearer, and more human
What it does
Sound & Clear is a trust layer for peer-to-peer transfers. Before a transfer is sent, it gives the sender an explainable reliability signal based on voluntary account activity, verified transfer evidence, and community-backed signals. Instead of exposing sensitive banking information, it shows a privacy-first trust profile. A strong signal helps users move forward with confidence; a risk signal encourages them to pause, verify, or cancel without automatically labeling anyone as a scammer.
How we built it
I built Sound & Clear as an interactive web experience using a 3D mobile banking interface, scroll-based transfer scenarios, and guided product flows. The platform combines: Supabase Auth for email, Google, and phone authentication Supabase database tables for member profiles, trust scores, reports, vouches, shared links, and transfer simulations Plaid Sandbox integration for opt-in bank connection and transaction-based scoring An explainable score model based on account history, activity patterns, account health, verified transfer proof, peer vouches, and community signals One-time share links that let a profile owner safely share a masked trust profile A simulated transfer flow that creates a confirmation code and receipt for later vouches or reports A community safety experience that helps users explore local scam patterns before making a move
Challenges we ran into
My biggest challenge was balancing safety with privacy. It is easy to make a score feel useful by collecting too much personal information, but that would conflict with the product’s purpose. I also had to make sure that community reporting did not become a system that unfairly labels people as scammers. A report is a signal for review, not a verdict. I designed the language, score explanations, and verification flow to reflect that distinction.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud that Sound & Clear is more than a visual concept. It includes a connected product story from profile creation to transfer proof. A user can create a trust profile, connect an account voluntarily, view an explainable score, share a masked one-time profile link, start a transfer with recipient details prefilled, and save a simulated receipt with a confirmation code. I am also proud of the privacy model: raw account numbers, passwords, and balances are not part of the public profile. The experience focuses on aggregated signals and evidence that people can understand.
What we learned
I learned that trust cannot be reduced to a single number. A score only becomes meaningful when people understand where it came from, what it does not mean, and what action they can take next. I also learned that financial safety products need careful language. “Low score” should mean “pause and verify,” not “this person is guilty.” Designing for fairness, transparency, and privacy is just as important as designing the technology.
What's next for Sound&Clear
Next, I want to strengthen the product from a simulation into a production-ready trust network. That includes expanding verified transfer proof, improving dispute-review workflows, refining the scoring model with more user feedback, adding stronger consent controls, and exploring partnerships with credit unions or community financial institutions. My long-term goal is simple: make every transfer feel more informed, more accountable, and more secure.
