Inspiration During the Health4Hack hackathon, I wanted to build something that goes beyond basic wellness tools. I was inspired by how emotional well-being is often overlooked in tech spaces — especially among teens who code all day. I’ve also seen how just a small shift in mood can make a big impact on motivation. That’s what led to SoulSync — a calm, AI-powered mood companion that listens and helps.

🚀 What it does SoulSync is an AI-driven emotional support tool designed to help users check in with themselves and feel seen. Here’s what it does:

🌥️ Mood Detection: Users input how they feel, and the app reflects that back with personalized responses.

💬 Chat with SoulSync AI: Empathetic conversations that feel real, helpful, and emotionally aware.

🧠 Mood Chart: Tracks how your feelings evolve over time using a color-coded visualization.

✍️ Journaling: Write freely in a private, secure space — everything stays local in your browser.

🎨 Calm UI: A soft, animated, responsive design that makes the space feel safe and non-intrusive.

You can try it here: SoulSync Live

🛠️ How we built it I worked on this with my teammate, and we used:

Next.js + React for the frontend

Tailwind CSS for fast and responsive styling

Framer Motion for smooth animations

Google Gemini to power the SoulSync AI conversation engine

Chart.js for mood tracking visuals All data is stored locally using localStorage, so users' journal entries and mood data stay private.

⚔️ Challenges we ran into Tuning the AI to respond empathetically without sounding generic or robotic took a lot of trial and error.

UI/UX design was a big focus — we wanted it to be calming, not sterile. Balancing animations and usability was tough.

Data privacy was important, and making sure everything was saved locally without backend storage was tricky.

Coordinating design and logic between two developers in limited time was also a bit of a sprint.

🏆 Accomplishments that we’re proud of Built a fully functional emotional companion app in under a week.

Created a zero-login, privacy-first journal system.

The animated mood graph turned out better than expected — intuitive and useful.

We got real feedback saying that SoulSync “actually helped someone reflect better,” which means everything to us.

📚 What we learned How important micro-interactions and UI polish are in emotional tech.

Working with AI in an emotional context requires empathy in prompt design, not just code.

Handling mental wellness features responsibly takes extra care, especially around privacy and UX.

Learned how to manage time and tasks better when building in a short timeframe with a teammate.

🔮 What’s next for SoulSync Adding daily check-in reminders to build healthy routines.

Implementing emoji-based quick mood logging.

Integrating a therapeutic quote generator using NLP.

A full dark mode and accessibility upgrades.

Possibly publishing as a Chrome extension or mobile PWA for easier access.
