What is the problem your solution addresses?
The problem our solution addresses is the lack of a platform for teenagers and young adults to authentically express their identity and individuality. Many modern social media platforms and apps encourage users to conform with what others are doing and push a uniform narrative of what is popular. This can also hide the voices of marginalized and diverse communities around the world. People no longer feel safe to embrace what makes them unique on the internet. This can begin to negatively impact users’ mental health and people feel pressured to post content that they think others like. Other platforms limit users to one specific medium of creative expression like just writing or music, which can constrain users’ creativity. Our solution address Track 3. As beginner designers, we worked as a team to create a prototype.
Why did you pick this solution, and how does it address the problem?
We chose this solution because self-expression is a powerful tool for identity affirmation and mental health, but fear of judgment often holds people back. Anonymity lowers this barrier, allowing users to share their thoughts freely while still fostering meaningful connections. Our app sends prompts to users nightly. Users are encouraged to engage with reflection, self-kindness, and community support. They are given the opportunity to include a song along with their message. The next morning, users will receive the message and song from another user who also left a message the previous night. Seeing collective affirmations helps users feel less alone, and receiving another’s words the next day offers personalized encouragement. Streaks encourages users to frequently engage with others, building good and positive habits. Furthermore, we feature several resources for users to develop their self expression. The global corkboard is another feature which makes this app low-pressure and community-driven, empowering authenticity.
