Inspiration? We were inspired by how many people feel lonely or anxious but don’t have someone to talk to. We wanted to build something that could provide comfort, understanding, and advice, anytime and anywhere. Our goal was to make emotional support more accessible through technology, particularly for individuals who may not feel comfortable sharing their emotions with others.
What does it do? SoulMate is an AI companion that listens with empathy and provides thoughtful advice when users feel down or stressed. It uses conversational AI to understand emotions, respond naturally, and guide users with positive and supportive suggestions.
How we built it We built SoulMate using a combination of machine learning APIs, natural language processing, and a simple web interface for easy interaction. We collaborated to design prompts, manage user emotions, and ensure the AI responds with warmth and care.
Challenges we ran into One of our biggest challenges was that one team member had no prior coding experience, so they had to learn the basics of programming during the hackathon. It was a tough start, but it turned into a great learning experience for all of us. We also struggled with balancing the emotional tone and AI accuracy to keep the responses both comforting and realistic.
Accomplishments that we're proud of We’re proud that we managed to build a working prototype in such a short time, especially while one of us was learning to code from scratch. We’re also proud of how well our team communicated, divided tasks, and combined creativity with technical effort to make something meaningful.
What we learned We learned a great deal about teamwork, emotional design in AI, and the importance of user experience when building something that interacts with real human emotions. We also learned that empathy can be cultivated, and that even small efforts in technology can make a significant emotional difference.
What's next for SoulMate Next, we plan to enhance SoulMate’s emotional understanding by integrating more advanced sentiment analysis and personalized response learning. We also hope to develop it into a mobile app that anyone can access easily, providing a safe space for emotional support worldwide.
