Inspiration
Our issue about When Black and POC students experience racism some of their families refuse to acknowledge the importance of mental well-being, which causes many black and poc students to not consider their homes as safe spaces.
What it does
Locates safe spaces for BIPOC. Black Youth will be able specify their ethnicities to locate more precise locations. Another main feature helps our safe spaces is our Visual Recognition feature. This feature helps us collect data with understanding the users mood and to be able to make it more natural instead of user going on the app and opening this Visualization part, it works on its on. It will be scanning the user's face hourly and collect this data to give a daily report at the end of the day and user can view the Mood Data on the app to see their weekly and monthly data.
How we built it
We used mainly Figma to develop the prototype since it is simpler for showing our idea instead of creating a website. For future we will use python as Backend. React as frontend. (We have already started but did not finish to work on Figma instead since the frontend can represent our idea better than many lines of code for now.)
Challenges we ran into
Learning Figma as a team was difficult as we had never used it before. Instead of using tools we are familiar with we decided to learn something new and wanted to use a popular UI design tool Figma which took most of time with learning the tool and its attributes. Yet, we managed to get a hold of it and visualized our idea with Figma which is also interactive for better user experience.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We all learned many things from our first hackathon such as how planning important and time management between planning, meeting times within the group and actual working time. We learned hackathon is not only about coding, 24/7 working but focusing on a unique and creative solution and enjoy the experience meanwhile. We are proud we learned a lot of new things, managed to move as a team and had a lot of fun!
What we learned
To make sure that we start the final presentation/submission earlier.
What's next for SoulCare
We are planning on creating our Visual Recognition feature available on our website.
