Inspiration:

A cyber presence is forever growing to be dominant in our day-to-day life. We wanted to create a tool to assist those assessing applicants for any program to be able to conduct a digital footprint search within one click. It allows for an accessible and speedy search. We want to provide a better holistic evaluation of a person, to allow for the best placement and overall fit. As well as informing the public about the importance of a clean digital footprint, and allow them to empower themselves online.

What it does:

Soteria is the modern-day provider of precise and swift digital footprint analysis, empowering employers and institutions to make informed decisions by scrutinizing candidates' online presence. It searches up the person's information, scrapes its sites for the information, and provides an output for the users.

How we built it

  • Python to write our functions (Back-end).
  • HTML/Beautiful Soup for site scraping (Database interaction).
  • Google search and Maryland State Court Public Records for Scraping (database for demo purposes).
  • Figma for the fully functional prototype (UI/UX).

Challenges we ran into

Pip Install was tricky to implement due to a lack of connectivity. Our Figma also overlaps prototyping, so I had to watch some tutorials too. Brainstorming for writing, took a while to figure out our pitching. Github was buffering really badly, so we had to reinstall the apps repeatedly till we all synced up on the same buffer~

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Sreeyasha - We are really proud to learn new software development skills and how to implement APIs. Paul - Being able to work on such a cool project with a cool team. Naiyah - Participating in a hackathon, meeting new people, expanding my skills, and putting them to the test. Malak - I learned how to research a pitch better, and how to adapt to my peer's skills.

What we learned

We learned a lot, from utilizing the terminal to learning the legal steps of our project and more.

What's next for Soteria

We hope to expand and update Soteria to better our community by:

  • Going through with the sign-in authorization.
  • Create legal tiers for clearing our clients.
  • Contract with Government Record Keepers.
  • Implement more databases.
