Inspiration
As a big hackathon fan who always wants to attend hackathons on the west coast and midwest, even though I live on the east coast, I have always found it difficult to book flights, pick the right prices, and wait for the prices to go lower and this process is especially difficult when there are MULTIPLE hackathons happening at the same time. Now you don't have to worry about this problem because we have Soteria.
What it does
Soteria lets you find hackathons and aggregates the information based on the inexpensive flights present. It presents you with the information in a very non-overwhelming manner!
How we built it
We built this with 100% dedication and no sleep (I know not good :/ ). Okay, now the technical part, we used NodeJS backend with ReactJS (NextJS) front end. We scrapped the data from MLH's events API to get the hackathon data. We had to use several other APIs just to piece together the flight price info.
Challenges we ran into
There are no proper flight prices-related APIs since google flights were shut down. The data we had to use is not easily available and since we wanted to keep everything live, we decided to use multiple APIs to get our work done
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of submitting the project on time and completing everything in less than 21 hours. while attending several workshops.
What we learned
We learned a lot next js while working on the project, we also learned about blockchain while trying to implement a reward system.
What's next for Soteria
Turn this into a one-stop hacker shop.
