1 in 6 undergraduate women experience attempted rape while in college. We aim to decrease that percentage by providing an app that can signal the user when they are near a dangerous location based on reports from public data sources and reports from users.
What it does
Soteria reduces harassment incidents, provides discreet contacts to call in case of emergencies, and helps women feel safer on campus.
How I built it
We used Swift, the Google Maps API, and Xcode to build this app.
Challenges I ran into
We had no experience with Swift but we felt it would be a good modem to connect with our target audience.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We are proud of being able to get a fully functioning app in under 12 hours, that can actually be used in real life scenarios on college campuses.
What I learned
Advanced Swift programming, Google Maps integration into an app, and accessing protected data from a user's phone after permission is granted are a few of the many things that we learned while making this app.
What's next for Soteria
We want the app to be fully functional (app is fully working, contact button links to contact page, and increase aesthetic beauty)
