Inspiration

Ukraine is currently suffering from a massive humanitarian crisis. More than hundreds of people, including children, are separated from their families and have been injured or died as a result of the war. Thirteen million additional Ukrainians, many of whom are unable to leave and are impossible to safely access with help, are estimated by the UN to be in the hardest-hit areas. The victims have little choice but to rely on themselves because there might not have been anybody nearby to contact for assistance. For this reason, a fast and simple way to call for help in these areas is always needed for the civilians.

What it does

This app only requires one tap which can be used to trigger an SOS and connect the user immediately with police, emergency contacts, or their families without the internet.

How we built it

We built it on Java and took us some time to understand what are the features we require on. We took help from google maps API for the location and there are a couple of more dependencies on the project.

Challenges we ran into

There are still some bugs that prevent us from opening the app, but these can be fixed later.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Completing and planning it at the right time as well as implementing it is all it made us go a long way.

What we learned

I learnt about the Google Maps API and how to integrate it with an app.

What's next for SOS App

For future plans, we intend on expanding it more and addressing any bugs that we were unable to resolve.
