Inspiration

I was inspired to create this project after seeing a video about beginner programming projects appear on my YouTube recommended page. A similar project was introduced in that video and I wanted to see if my knowledge of java was sufficient to be able to code something like this.

What it does

The program creates an array of 50 different sized rectangles and is able to shuffle and sort them by height and color based on the user's choices.

How I built it

I used Eclipse and the java GUI to create this application.

Challenges we ran into

I had never used the java GUI before so I had to spend time learning my way around the different calls to certain elements and figuring out how to implement graphics which allowed me to change the position of the rectangles one by one.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm proud of being able to now have this project to put on my resume. I've been coding for less than a year and I'm starting an AP Computer Science course in the fall which is taught in java, so I wanted to practice the syntax and learn this language by creating a project.

What we learned

I learned a lot more about the java GUI and how to use graphics to paint and repaint the screen. I also learned a lot about how to use classes and how different variables within classes can only be accessed by creating an instance of that class.

What's next for Sorting Visualizer

I want to continue to add more sorting algorithms to the app and also be able to turn the project into a web-based application so that users can just click a link to view the project instead of having to run the code themselves.
