Inspiration
The main inspiration for this game is another popular indie game called Papers, Please, a game where you play as an immigration officer making decisions near the border.
What it does
The game puts you in the role of a hospital warden during a crisis. You have limited resources and a family to take care of, so you must decide who gets admitted and who gets turned away.
How we built it
We built the game in Unity using C#. All the visuals are 2D and completely hand-drawn by my teammate.
Challenges we ran into
Implementing the dialogue system was tricky, as this was my first time doing a dialog heavy game and i had no idea how to proceed, especially making it flow properly with player choices. Also i learned how to implement cut scenes in a game. Managing the art was also a challenge, as this was the first time artist was testing out digital art and struggled to convey the weight of the emotions in a very simple doodle style art.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud that we actually finished the game. It’s also my first proper narrative-driven project, and the first ever game my teammate worked on. We are extremely happy we managed to create something that feels complete and meaningful.
What we learned
We learned a lot about communication and teamwork, especially since this is only my second team project. I also learned more about Unity and C# features while building the game. For my teammate, this was her first time trying digital art, and improved by adapting to different art styles and requirements.
What's next for Sorry, Your death wont matter
Next step is to polish the game and make it good enough for a proper release. Hopefully something we can put on Steam.
