Inspiration

I have one goal: to make useful advice accessible to everyone.

The problem isn’t that good advice doesn’t exist. It’s that we often learn it too late.

There are thousands of small lessons that can make life easier: how to communicate better, save time, handle everyday situations, understand people, or simply make smarter decisions. But this knowledge is scattered everywhere buried in books, threads, videos, podcasts, and conversations.

At the same time, we spend hours scrolling through content every day.

That made me wonder: what if scrolling could actually teach you something useful?

That idea became Sophia.

What it does

Sophia turns scrolling into learning.

Instead of an endless feed of forgettable content, Sophia gives you short, practical life tips you can understand in seconds and actually use.

You can:

  • Scroll through practical life tips across different topics.
  • Discover advice you might otherwise learn years later.
  • Share useful advice with friends and family.
  • Build a small daily habit of learning something useful.

The idea is simple: scroll less mindlessly, learn something useful.

How we built it

Here is the tech stack:

  • React Native + Expo for the mobile app
  • AdonisJS for the backend
  • RevenueCat for subscriptions
  • AppsFlyer for app attribution

Challenges we ran into

  • I spent money testing paid ads, different creatives, and messaging, but conversion remained low.
  • There is an enormous amount of advice online, and choosing what is genuinely useful can be difficult.
  • Good advice doesn't always translate word for word. The challenge was keeping each tip natural, clear, and useful across different languages without losing its original meaning.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Reached 600+ downloads.
  • Made my first +$100 in revenue.
  • Built it solo, end to end — from the mobile app and backend to design, content, localization, analytics, subscriptions, and distribution.
  • Started experimenting with paid acquisition, creatives, and different marketing angles.

What we learned

  • Shipping the app was hard, but getting people to discover and download it turned out to be even harder.
  • I spent money testing ads and creatives and learned quickly that attention doesn't automatically turn into downloads or paying users.

What's next for Sophia - Daily Tips

  • Improve onboarding to increase conversion.
  • Experiment with new ad creatives and organic content to improve distribution.
  • Keep expanding the library of useful tips.
  • Continue improving personalization so people discover advice that's more relevant to them.
