Inspiration

During a difficult phase of health recovery, I realized how many people—especially elders and patients—forget medications, ignore small symptoms, or delay check-ups until it’s too late. That experience made me want to build something meaningful — a digital companion that reminds, tracks, and cares for its users. SootheCare was born with a simple belief: Smiles Matter.

What it does

SootheCare is a health-assistance web app that:

Lets users track daily symptoms (like pain or discomfort).

Offers gentle health reminders for medicines or routines.

Includes Milo, a friendly bear-mascot chatbot who talks to users and keeps them engaged with care tips.

Displays a simple dashboard showing total, complete, and pending wellness tasks.

It’s designed for everyone — especially those who need gentle support to stay consistent in their care.

How we built it

Frontend: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for all core UI and functionality.

Design: Canva for UI mockups and branding.

Database (Planned): Firebase will be used to store user data securely.

AI Chatbot (Future Integration): GPT-API to power Milo’s conversational support. All development was done using a tablet, showing that determination matters more than tools.

Challenges we ran into

Making responsive layouts without access to a laptop.

Writing logical JavaScript functions for dynamic features like the symptom tracker.

Balancing school, health recovery, and project deadlines while still learning new technologies.

Learning to design consistent UI components across multiple screens.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Designed and coded the entire app UI independently.

Built a functioning prototype while managing studies and therapies.

Learned real-world development workflow using Canva → HTML/CSS → JS.

Staying consistent and proving that creativity and empathy can exist together in tech.

What we learned

How frontend technologies connect to real-world health solutions.

How to convert a design idea into working code.

Importance of UX and emotional design in healthcare apps.

How collaboration and community (Hack Club, mentors) help refine your work.

What's next for SootheCare - Smiles Matter

Integrate Firebase for storing user data and reminders.

Add Milo AI Chatbot using GPT-API to give health advice and motivation.

Make the app responsive for mobile users.

Add a “Mood Journal” and “Health Check-In” feature for mental wellness.

Publish the app on Play Store and web so anyone can access it.

SootheCare is not just an app — it’s a small step toward spreading care, positivity, and early awareness. Because in the end, Smiles Matter. 💖
