Inspiration

Inspired via dungeon games where you can collaborated with others to finish a task together or alone. We are inspired via Pokemon Go for the real life map showing locations and player count. Adding clan/friend system to make it competitive with others.

What it does

Allows users to make or join events around campus(raids) join study groups(dungeons) and find similar peers around campus to help each other excel in school.

How we built it

We first made a framework to effectively make this app by creating a main page that had sub sections for each thing we implemented. There are different sections each serving a different purpose. The sub sections each were programmed using python. The backend where we store our data is hosted on supabase using sql and that allows the users to save their data so they can continue grinding whenever they want.

Challenges we ran into

Syncing data from supabase and our main website thats hosted elsewhere was an issue as sometimes the data wouldn't save. We then optimized our code to just run the program and call the data when ran instead of storing data inside our program/on the users phone.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The map feature showcasing live data on people studying and the chat feature that allows people to converse with others.

What we learned

Making the framework was the best idea as we had a clear roadmap ahead on how we were to program our project. After programming the basics we were then able to implement features to our program. We also learned stuff about web hosting from our repo and hosting our sql data on another site. Being able to use different technologies really helped us learn that there is more to making a app than just code on our repo.

What's next for Sooner Buddies

We are looking to branch off from just studying and doing school events into stuff like run clubs, working out clubs, and anything that you can do with another sooner on campus as this will allow sooners to develop bonds that can last even after college.
