Project Story
Inspiration
We drew inspiration from several third-party selling platforms like Facebook Marketplace, Depop, and Mercari, studying how each platform handled peer-to-peer selling and what UI/UX design choices were made in order to inform our own design decisions
What it does
Our platform brings the Sonny Angel community closer together by allowing users to buy, sell, and trade all in one platform. Whether you're searching for a rare figure, clearing out duplicates, or looking to make a trade, everything happens in one trusted, collector-focused hub.
How we built it
We began with user research to understand the needs and behaviors of collectors. From there, we mapped out the user flow for buying, selling, and trading to ensure a smooth experience. We then moved through the design process, starting with low-fidelity wireframes, then to mid-fidelity layouts, and ultimately refining everything into a high-fidelity prototype.
Throughout this process, our developers were actively working in the background, overseeing our design decisions and simultaneously bringing the platform to life using TypeScript.
Challenges we ran into
Balancing both trading and selling features within a single platform
- It was important to present both options clearly without cluttering the user experience or creating confusion about how each process works
Defining the rules and policies that would shape the platform
- We had to consider how trade offers should be handled and deciding the steps for listing verification and think critically about what would build trust and ensure fairness
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Designing a visually cohesive platform that looks good and reflects the playful and collectible nature of Sonny Angels
Building a clear and functional trading page, which simplifies the process for people. We focused on making it easy for users to understand how to send offers, what to look out for in trades and making them feel confident about their interaction
Clearly communicating how the shop works, through thoughtful infographic design which explains how to buy, sell, further helping build trust and reducing friction
What we learned
Creating a sense of safety and trust for our users was challenging but crucial. Building a seamless platform where people feel confident about buying, selling, and trading their precious Sonny Angels required us to think carefully about the user experience, communication, and transparency shown at every step.
What's next for SonnySwap
Designing and developing an events page which shows local trading meetups and community events
Incorporating live market pricing data from other platforms like eBay, Mercari, and Depop and displaying this information alongside the seller’s price in order to make users informed
