Inspiration:
I've always been interested in music, but I don't really know how to play any instruments so this seemed like a great way to start learning about composition, etc while doing something I'm already going to school for - coding!
What it does:
Creates music while live-coding
How we built it
Built using the open source Sonic Pi platform which is based on Ruby
Challenges I ran into:
A complete lack of knowledge regarding Sonic Pi and music theory :[
Accomplishments that I'm proud of:
Creating what (I hope) is the start of some interesting algorithmic music
What I learned:
I learned a ton about different kinds of chords, and scales, chaining FX (kind of like guitar pedals), synchronized threading, ruby syntax, and using all kinds of data structures to create music.
What's next?
Who knows? Maybe one day I'll be a live-coding DJ.
Built With
- ruby
- sonicpi
