We wanted to create a project that would include music and the Oculus Rift, to do a virtual reality music visualization, complete with three dimensional graphics of flying through space based on body motions.

We ran into challenges early on the project. Completing the graphics was relatively simple with gimp, but the main problem was that the Oculus Rift was not able to run the graphics that we wanted Furthermore, none of us had a laptop that was powerful enough to support the Rift, not a Macbook, not a Linux laptop or a Windows laptop. We also quickly abandoned the idea of using the Kinect because we realized that the Myo was much simpler to use and program with. The Myo primarily is used for hand and arm motions, and our project was supposed to only use hand and arm motions, so using the Kinect to track entire body movements was unnecessary.

Our final product is an Android app connects to a Myo armband, and the Myo tracks your arm movements while the keyboard in the app produces the pitches.

In the future, we want to add another Myo to your other hand and have a wide range of notes and sounds. This could be used for virtual conducting and music practice.
