Inspiration
Our inspiration stemmed from a desire to establish a digital sanctuary in which individuals could easily access and can journal, brain dump, or articulate their emotions. A zen little place just for you to clear your head. Choosing the theme of "sonder," we aimed to encapsulate the introspective and outward nature of journaling. Through our web application, we aspired to offer a serene space for those grappling with emotional expressions.
What it does
The web application we've developed allows users to write journal entries and use fun stickers to write out thoughts and express what they are thinking or feeling. Additionally, entries are automatically saved in the browser, ensuring that closing the browser won't erase their progress.
How we built it
We built 'Sonder.' by using HTML, CSS, JavaScript. These tools were instrumental in constructing an aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly front end.
Challenges we ran into
Our journey encountered hurdles, particularly in creating the stickers, allowing them to be draggable, and sooo many styling issues. Through collaborative problem-solving and mutual encouragement, we navigated these challenges successfully!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We take pride in the successful creation and completion of our project. It was amazing how we were able to stay motivated throughout every challenge our project threw at us. We also loved how this event was able to give us a sense of empowerment and community as women in a field dominated by males.
What we learned
Our journey taught us the difficulties of fully implementing a website, particularly with a focus on JavaScript. Most of us did not have much experience with this language, so this was a major learning opportunity for us. It was also really interesting learning the process of making an idea come to a fully developed reality. Most importantly, we got to see that team work makes the dream work!
What's next for Sonder.
Our first step would be making our site responsive to different browser sizes. We also plan to better integrate the saving of past journal entries, maybe in a sidebar chat-gpt style. Looking ahead, we envision the incorporation of login credentials and user authentication. This aims to elevate the user experience and reinforce the security measures of the platform. We also plan to add more features, such as habit tracking and fun journal prompts!
