Inspiration
From our inception, our founder group organically grew from 200 to 20,000 people in a Telegram group, coming to us to ask for advice on how to access and use DeFi, how to not be “rugged”, how to DYOR, what new products are available and useful, etc. During this process, our founders were using more and more tools to assist our users. This was the “Aha!” moment; we no longer could accept a blockchain user experience where every tool and feature was separately and disparately available. The space is too confusing for current users, let alone for those who have yet to enter the space. This gave birth to Sonar. We are creating a single-access point for blockchain finance so that every user has everything they need to fully understand and take advantage of the financial opportunities which exist, regardless if they are a novice or professional crypto user.
What it does
Sonar’s solution is to introduce Universal Finance: a financial system where both CeFi and DeFi’s financial tools are integrated into one access point supported by an AI co-pilot. We call this, UniFi.
Our product (Sonar Terminal) creates this UniFi experience. How so?
Terminal provides users the ability to access, manage, and interact with CeFi products and services (e.g. Binance via APIs) alongside the ability to access, manage, and interact with DeFi products and services (e.g. DEX trades/swaps, DEX perps, liquid staking, etc.).
Both CeFi and DeFi portfolios and the tools to interact are built into the Terminal, providing users the full spectrum of ability to fully invest across the blockchain without the need of multiple services.
Furthermore, the Terminal provides an aggregate overview of a user’s portfolio which provides a much-needed service whereby users can manage their actual, real-time cryptocurrency portfolio regardless of where their assets are located (e.g. CeFi or DeFi). As a point of clarification, not all trading tools are built by Sonar. One of the keystone features of Sonar is composability. We are built to partner and integrate with best-in-class CeFi and DeFi products.
Given that understanding, this allows Terminal to continually integrate, update, and offer an ever-growing set of tools built by Sonar or partners which deepens the UniFi experience.
Our UniFi-driven Terminal will not only eliminate the major pain points associated with the inefficiency of managing disparate investment pools, but also greatly reduce the learning curve experienced by future users who have not participated in the cryptocurrency market as of today.
Challenges we’ve ran into
The major challenges we have faced are sound data availability and general investment prioritization.
Obviously, as a trading terminal, we are highly dependent upon fast, accurate blockchain data. Our first hurdle was to deal with data APIs which were either too slow in response time, or the data was incorrect or missing vital components. This led to our first major development undertaking in which we spent the next 1.5 years developing our proprietary data indexing solution. As we are dealing with financial concerns, data accuracy is of the utmost importance. Our indexing solution is faster than each “charting tool” which is currently available. We also host our own nodes of each integrated chain, allowing us to formulate and deploy novel data analytics and provide them to our users. Examples of this include professional-grade user portfolio analytics, financial-institution level quantitative analytics for retail users, and other deep-level informatics which are normally gate-kept from the average investor.
The other main challenge we continue to face is the blind spot which exists within the venture capital investment community. Crypto VC finance has particular “trends” which attract capital at particular moments. As of today, we see DePIN/AI/RWA as the dominant trend. However, what many are missing is that the more projects that are being invested in and incubated, the further complexity we add to the user experience for blockchain users. It’s as simple as this: if one is investing in 20 projects, how easy is it for a user to find each of those 20 projects? In most cases, it can be seen as an almost impossibility that a user today, let alone a new blockchain user, will find and use even a couple of these projects. We need to UniFi users and the user experience.
As Sonar is building the blockchain (i.e. CeFi/DeFi) access point for users, we are providing the most essential service which has yet to be provided: a way for users to easily find and use all these protocols/tools/services in which VCs are investing. The investment community needs to understand that an RWA user is most likely an AI user. An AI user is most likely a DePIN user. Sonar provides the platform in which the user can identify and access each of these tools, but without having to search independently for each.
So in that vein, our challenge has been to refocus capital investment in the overall blockchain experience which leads to mass adoption.
We feel confident the right partners, with the right “big picture” vision for blockchain are out there and willing to shift the paradigm.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud of our organic growth to 3,000DAU or 106,000MAU. Given that we are pre-version 1.0 release, we are beyond our initial targets for user acquisition. This reinforces our conviction that Sonar is the right tool, built at the right time, and for the right people.
What we learned
As we continue to evolve, we learn more about the specific needs of users. With an incredibly active and loyal user base, we are given a very deep understanding of particular pain points which stops each user from either adopting a new technology or causes users to switch services.
This understanding has continually been threaded into the design and functionality of Sonar. It truly is a system built on the critical needs of the blockchain user.
What's next for Sonar Platform
Sonar Portal is the end game. This phase goes beyond web3 finance. In web3, you can chat with your friends, play games, connect with non-financial services, and more. Sonar Portal enables users to be able to not only trade cryptocurrencies using all the features from Studio and Terminal, but now use crypto tokens through dApp integration. Sonar Portal evolves the user from a token trader into a web3 user: it is “Your home for web3”.
To build “Your home for Web3” Sonar Portal introduces:
A Web3 Search Engine
The search engine allows users to search for everything, everywhere, be it metadata, text, objects, images, documents, speech, video content, emotions, motion, faces, and more. Through the search engine, a user can find tokens, wallets, texts, protocols, dApps, news, and education by performing a single search.
A Social Layer
Within the Sonar Portal, users have a social profile which includes advanced privacy options, wallet-to-wallet messaging, and DAO participation managers to help expand their web3 footprint.
A dApp Store
The Store is a single location where users can find, connect, and enable decentralized applications. The dApps available are both PING-based and non-PING based dApps. Included is a curated, dApp discovery section which offers users access to the best dApps available in Web3.
Sonar Portal eliminates the need for users to use/pay for various websites/tools/apps from separate providers as it allows those providers to launch their projects and dApps directly on Sonar and enhance the overall ecosystem; without diminishing their product or service.
Sonar Portal’s strength is in its user-driven composability. It empowers users to select different web3 components, tools, and services in order to combine them into a truly personalized web3 experience, unique to each user, thus creating an ever-expanding universe of systems distinctively catering to the needs, desires, and complexity of each user.
The key driving forces behind Sonar Portal are:
Personalization
Every user has their own unique style. Some trade tokens, others play web3 games, and some connect with others through SocialFi. Web3 is a diverse tapestry of functionality and Sonar Portal allows each user to select, prioritize, and organize their web3 experience according to what is most relevant. This is “Your Home for Web3”.
Social interaction
Web3 is not simply about finance. Web3 is a community of millions of users. Sonar Portal allows this community to engage and interact with each other both through various social networking features found within Sonar Portal, but also through the partner built social networking dApps.
Borderless Finance
Beyond simple transactions and trades in the CeFi and DeFi world, Sonar Portal transcends the purely transactional nature of finance; users can now discuss financial opportunities with their colleagues, network with like-minded investors, explore previously unavailable market research through integrated dApp analytics, and interact with their investments. Sonar Portal elevates finance into a tangible and interactive part of a user’s digital life.
