Briefly describe your project in relation to the challenge prompt (max 200 words)

"sonar" connects users anonymously through music, enabling them to share songs and communicate in a unique, artistic way, creating a shared musical experience that transcends physical and cultural boundaries.

Inspired by the concept of music as a universal language, Sonar encourages users to discover songs from different languages and genres, cultivating understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures. By forming connections based on shared musical interests, Sonar helps bridge gaps and fosters meaningful relationships among people from all backgrounds. We envision this app to empower individuals to express themselves creatively while contributing to a more inclusive and equitable global community.

Describe your main design decisions and how they contribute to your product (max 300 words)

Our main design decisions were to create a music sharing platform with marine and modern aesthetics that promoted anonymity and a focus on just the music. Many of our features were geared towards the user’s personal decisions, but at the same time the randomization feature when given matches to choose from also force our user to step out of their comfort zones and discover new music. We also designed our app to only have communication via song sharing, which is also blocked from spamming, in order to push the user to be selective with their musical choices. This allows the user to become more thoughtful in their selections in their efforts to share their music and potentially unlock chatting with the other matched user. Of course, they could just ignore the chat feature entirely, and still connect with other users worldwide, spreading the language of music.
