Inspiration

My wife works as a waitress and noticed something striking: most customers know nothing about wine. They just want something that pairs well with their dish, but feel intimidated asking. That's when SOMMIA was born.

The Journey

I had never written a single line of code before July 2025. Zero. Nada.

But I had determination and access to AI tools: Claude, Bolt, Supabase. For 90 days, I learned, failed, debugged, and rebuilt. I discovered that in 2025, anyone with enough persistence can build a functional app that solves real problems.

What I Built

SOMMIA is an AI sommelier that removes wine intimidation. Users simply:

Take a photo of their dish
Get 3 personalized wine recommendations
Feel confident ordering

React Native (via Bolt.new)
Supabase for backend
Mistral AI for recommendations
RevenueCat for monetization
588 curated wines database

Validation

86 people surveyed: 93% completion rate
40.7% willing to pay €2.99/weekly
Apple approved TODAY (perfect timing!)

The Challenge

The hardest part? Learning everything from scratch. Edge functions, API integrations, App Store guidelines... But each obstacle taught me something new.
