Inspiration
I was inspired by the frustrating reality that most people sign lengthy, complex legal documents without fully understanding them. Whether it’s a digital terms-of-service agreement or a paper contract in a doctor’s office, legal jargon and formatting make it nearly impossible for the average person to digest. This issue is even more pressing for non-English-speaking patients, who are often asked to sign important medical forms in a language they don’t speak fluently. I wanted to build something that makes legal content accessible, understandable, and inclusive.
What it does
Translate physical or digital legal documents into plain language that anyone can understand. Support multiple languages, making it useful for patients and users who aren’t fluent in English. Use the device’s camera to scan real-world contracts, convert them to text, and output a simplified explanation. It’s built for use in clinics, offices, and everyday life—anywhere people are handed a document and asked to “just sign here.”
How we built it
We built Legal Lingo using Bolt.new, leveraging its low-code tools to prototype and launch rapidly. The app integrates: AI-powered text simplification models ElevenLabs APIs for multilingual support Camera input to extract document content in real-time
Challenges we ran into
We ran into some challenges with the elevenlabs api functionality of english documents being translated into spanish and vice versa. the ability to take batch pictures of documents gave us some trouble also.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud that we are able to make something tangible and useful so quickly with bolt.new.
What we learned
Technology is really getting better and better. I cant wait to see where AI and machine learning takes us from here
What's next for Legal Lingo
We want to add more language capabilities and refine the outputs. We also want to partner with law firms to be able to help their customers
