Notigasm

Have you ever wanted an app that could be secured and protected while bothering others during their good night sleep? Well, you're in luck, because the four of us have created the perfect app for you.

Inspiration:

The main inspiration was the facade that most individuals wanted to be the best and we had also wanted to become like that in a sense. So, in other words, we chose the idea of going for the most impractical/least practical track to go off and base our idea around. Also, we wanted to have fun and make a lot of memories while being at the hackathon, because with the people we are with, it is most important to socialize and get to know them a little.

What it does:

Our project, Notigasm, is basically an app like WhatsApp with a twist. The twist is that when texting to another person, it annoys the heck out of the person receiving the message. So, if I were to message my friend about a math assignment, the receiving end would get an notification popping up saying like, "To-do list: Stop trying." In other words, it is another way of communicating, but the communicating is sent in a rudeful manner.

How we built it:

We built it with react.native (typescript) for the front-end part and for the backend, python and Gemini was utilized.

Challenges we ran into:

There were many challenges that we ran into during the ~20 hrs of the hackathon.

  1. The hunger that came into factor. All of us were incredibly hungry from the fact that we haven't ate at all since the moment we woke up.

  2. The exhaustion during midnight. Some of of us were struggling to keep ourselves awake and had to resort to drinking coffee.

  3. Multiple lines of errors. The front-end and back-end faced multiple issues and left us stumped. For example, Yash was working on the back-end, but as he was trying to debug the program, more errors kept coming and coming

Accomplishments that we're proud of:

  1. Managing to have a working demo product for others to see and touch
  2. Fixing the stacks of errors that kept coming
  3. Actually making something

What we learned:

We learned that:

  1. It is hard to code, brainstorm, and discuss while being sleep deprived
  2. We are prone to having less cognitive functions after the hackathon
  3. Discipline is a key factor rather than motivation
  4. Teams do work well rather than a solo project

What's next for Notigasm:

There is a list of features that Notigasm could implement to make itself the most impractical tool to notify an individual.
