Inspiration
Soma was created from multiple ideas. One original idea was a body scanning app that could detect sun damage. Another source of inspiration was a massage I had gotten recently where the RMT told me I hold my stress in my body, specifically in my torso area. These types of sensory experiences are so important but are hard to quantify.
What it does
Soma turns the user's hands into sensors and their body into an interactive surface. The mobile app creates a digital version of the user's body inside the app. The user places their hand on part of their body and Soma reads what's happening beneath the surface.
How we built it
Using Figma Make.
Challenges we ran into
A challenge we faced with Figma Make was creating a body avatar inside the app.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the type of app Soma is. We believe it could make a huge difference in the well-being of its users by making people more aware of how their body is holding tension, stress or other signals. By giving recommendations and quantifying these sensory experiences, users will have a better understanding of their bodies.
What we learned
We have had so much fun making this app. Our biggest takeaway from this challenge has been to never be afraid to think big. Being able to brainstorm ideas far and wide has made us aware of the great opportunities that can lie ahead by doing so.
What's next for Soma
From a feasibility standpoint, we would love to speak with biomedical engineers about Soma.
