On a distant planet, a ritual takes place, during which an aspiring initiate comes to help restore the light. This rebirth takes place both in the cosmos and in his mind.
Desires
The most distant source for this short film is the beauty of images captured by the Cassini space probe. These minimalist photos invite contemplation, calm the mind. They carry within them a simple depth. We therefore wanted to explore this cosmic dimension by connecting it with a human experience: It's about learning this connection, reestablishing the link between the individual and the cosmos. On one side, a work of graphic abstraction, on the other, a continuous advancement, overcoming obstacles. To explore the genre of contemplative science fiction, and invite meditation.
A Short Film from the Solars Universe
This film is part of the extended story of the Solars, a science fiction universe we are developing stone by stone (www.solaires.art), and in which we have, among other things, AI feature film projects. It is more particularly the backstory of Dao Diem, a sage character, inspired by Lao Tzu and Epicurus. Its aesthetic is unique within this universe, with the choice of black and white and graphic minimalism conferring upon it a distinctive status.
Process
The first images were created on Midjourney, then a LoRa was trained on Krea to ensure character continuity. This was the first time we managed to achieve satisfactory character consistency, which for us is a major breakthrough. Gemini was helpful in this task for creating angle variations. All the shots were then animated with Kling, working to preserve a contemplative rhythm. The female voiceover, inspired by Eurydice, is generated with Eleven Labs, then slightly transformed during editing. The music is composed by Mathias Durand. The editing was done with Luma Fusion on iPad.
