Inspiration

I built this app because I watched my mother sell her last pot to pay my school fees. No child—or mom—should face that alone

What it does

SOLMama combines three lifelines in one place:
Financial Aid Finder: AI matches moms with grants/food programs in 5 minutes (vs. 3+ hours of Googling)
Parenting Ally: AI-powered parenting coach answers questions like "How do I get daycare assistance?" or "Why is my 4-year-old biting?"
Verified Community: A judgment-free space where moms trade skills (e.g., "I’ll braid hair for babysitting")

How we built it

I used ChatGPT and Deepseek to refine my idea and generate the initial prompts for the app development. Then I use Bolt.dev to create the app from start to completion through iterative prompting. I use Supabase as the Database and Netlify to deploy the app.

Challenges we ran into

  1. "Accurate Data Proofing": Difficulty getting data on the actual numbers of single moms in Africa. I have to use LLM to research it.
    1. Domain Name Issue: I couldn't access the free domain name from Entri due to payment issues from my Country. This prevented me from getting a custom domain for my project.
    2. Tech Limits: I have to provide different prompts and iterate with the AI while building the app. Most time I need to use ChatGPT to reframe the prompts so as to get the desired outcome.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • 100% of beta users gave good feedback about the app idea with some areas of improvement.
  • Featured by Local Women’s Shelter Network before official launch.

What we learned

  • AI Capability Top-Notch: During this hackathon, I have discovered some great capabilities of AI.
  • Creativity and Context Wins: In vibecoding, you need creativity and context to be able to get the best out of AI.

What's next for SOLMama

  • Get a customised domain: name for the app and source for funding to launch the app into a fully functional product.
  • Pilot Program: Partner with 5 shelters to onboard 1,000 moms by Q3
  • AI Expansion: Add multilingual support (Spanish first) via 21st.dev Lingo
