Inspiration
Navigating an insurance claim can be overwhelming, especially when someone is already dealing with health challenges, financial uncertainty, and family responsibilities.
Inspired by Daniel's experience, we recognized that the biggest frustration isn't always waiting for a decision it's not knowing what's happening, why a claim is delayed, or who is responsible for the next step.
We wanted to transform the insurance experience from something confusing and stressful into something transparent, supportive, and empowering.
That's why we created Solee, a friendly digital claims companion designed to bring clarity, accountability, and peace of mind to every step of the insurance journey.
What It Does
Solee simplifies the claims experience by helping users understand their claim status, identify missing information, and take meaningful action.
Instead of displaying vague statuses like "Pending," Solee explains what's missing, why it matters, and who is responsible.
Our key features include:
- Claim Overview: See where your claim stands and whether you need to act all at a glance.
- Follow-up: Understand what’s missing, why it’s needed, and who must provide it.
- Privacy-First Information Sharing: Users can preview what information will be shared and with whom before submitting a request.
- Tracking & Notifications: Know who’s following up and receive updates without constantly checking.
- Files: Keep your claim documents in one place and upload requested files with ease.
- Solee: An ai agent to help solve user concerns.
Solee doesn't just show users where they are in the process, it helps them understand what happens next.
How We Built It
We began by examining Daniel's persona and identifying his core frustrations: uncertainty, lack of visibility, complicated communication, and concerns about financial stability.
We then developed Solee's user flow, moving from Claim Overview → Missing Document Details → Follow-up Request → Sharing Preview → Request Received → Request Accepted → Document Notification → Updated Claim Overview.
We used Figma to design an interactive prototype with intuitive navigation, accessible language, clear visual hierarchy, and a friendly interface inspired by Sun Life's brand.
Rather than simply adding more features, we focused on making each interaction purposeful, understandable, and reassuring.
Challenges We Faced
One of our biggest challenges was balancing simplicity with the complexity of real insurance processes.
Insurance claims involve multiple stakeholders, sensitive personal information, and steps that users may not fully understand. We needed to make these processes easier to navigate without misrepresenting how claims work.
We addressed this by distinguishing between a request being submitted and someone actually accepting responsibility, clearly identifying document ownership, and showing users what information they are sharing.
Another challenge was making the experience feel supportive without overwhelming users with unnecessary information. We prioritized straightforward language, clear next steps, and timely updates.
What We Learned
This project reinforced that good user experience isn't just about making information accessible it's about making information actionable.
We learned that transparency builds trust, but meaningful transparency requires more than a progress bar. Users need to understand why something is happening, who is responsible, and when they can expect to hear more.
We also discovered the importance of designing for emotional needs alongside functional ones, especially in situations where users may feel vulnerable or uncertain.
What's Next
We envision Solee evolving into a more personalized claims companion, incorporating financial guidance, accessible multilingual support, and smarter assistance throughout the claims journey.
Our ultimate goal is to make insurance feel less like a complicated administrative process and more like a service that genuinely supports people when they need it most.
Solee: Less uncertainty. More clarity. Support every step of the way.
