Inspiration
One of our group members is a transfer student and she came into UVA not knowing many people. A site like this would have allowed her to connect with others in her classes.
What it does
Links students at UVA with others in similar classes where they can connect over shared interests and hobbies.
How we built it
We made a login screen, home page, and profile page. The login screen makes sure you are a UVA student checking your UVA id. The home page allows to connect with other students by messaging those in similar classes as you. The profile page is where you input all your information including year, major, classes, and hobbies.
Challenges we ran into
There were challenges with resizing pictures and moving text (centering/putting text next to each other). We also wanted to use Django but a lot of obstacles made us have to move on without it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of our idea and our visually pleasing pages as well as these pages being functional.
What we learned
We learned a lot about coding and design as it was a lot of our first hackathons!
What's next for HoosHere?
Publicizing and improving our backend.
