Sole Mates

"Sole Mates” was born from my love for transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. I wanted to reimagine something as mundane as laundry day into a whimsical world where socks fall in love, lose each other, and rediscover connection. Inspired by classic Pixar charm and my own vibrant pop-art sensibilities, the film celebrates individuality, longing, and the beauty of finding true love.

My film uses humor, heart, and a fantastical approach to character design to tell a love story set in “The Wash,” a jazzy speakeasy for lost socks. Through AI animation, the visual merges narrative animation, music, and emotion showcasing how AI tools can expand imagination while keeping storytelling deeply human.

The film was created using a blend of AI and traditional post-production workflows: Chat GPT and Google Image Fx for character and environment design, Kling, Hailuo, Freepik for video generations motion, Hedra for expressive lip sync, Eleven labs, Logic Pro X, Suno, and Splice for sound design and music, and Final Cut Pro X for final editing and color. ChatGPT supported scriptwriting, shot listing, and creative direction prompts.

The biggest challenge was budget, and achieving character consistency across AI tools while maintaining emotional expression. Matching the characters looks and movements across scenes required experimenting with multiple prompt variations and frame-matching techniques. Balancing stylization with realism was another ongoing creative puzzle.

I'm most proud that I was able to build a fully realized cinematic animated short using an entirely AI-assisted workflow without a traditional studio or budget. The project stands as a proof of concept for how indie creators can craft high-quality, animated films using accessible AI tools.

I learned how empowering integrating AI tool with traditional workflows can bring amazing results when it amplifies human creativity rather than replaces it. Storytelling, emotion, and vision still drive the process AI simply becomes an add tool in the artist’s tool box. Collaboration between tools and intuition was key to bringing this quirky sock universe to life. I still had to understand how to tell the story and the AI tools helped make my process smoother.

I am developing “Sole Mates” into a feature-length AI-animated adventure. Right now, I am applying to more grants as well as pitching for production partners. I'm expanding the characters and their stories , worldbuilding, and I hope to make my mark in the film world as a director who did not run from AI technology but embraced it!
