What Inspired Me:
The growing need for sustainable energy solutions and the desire to empower individuals to monitor and optimize their solar energy usage inspired me to create SolarX. I wanted to provide users with a clear, real-time understanding of how their solar systems are performing and how much energy they consume—ultimately encouraging energy efficiency and smarter choices.
What I Learned:
Throughout the development of SolarX, I deepened my understanding of full-stack web development, particularly in integrating frontend interfaces with Java-based backend systems using JDBC. I also learned how to visualize data through interactive graphs and manage user authentication, data storage, and communication via email.
How I Built the Project:
I designed the frontend using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, focusing on a clean and intuitive dashboard that displays energy production and consumption data through graphs. For the backend, I used Java with JDBC to connect to a MySQL database where user credentials and energy data are stored. Users can log in, input production/consumption values, and view their energy metrics. Order forms for solar-related products are also linked to email notifications using JavaMail API.
Challenges I Faced:
Integrating dynamic graph updates based on real-time data entries.
Managing Java backend logic without using advanced frameworks like Spring Boot or Maven.
Setting up a secure and reliable JDBC connection and handling database operations efficiently.
Ensuring email notifications were sent correctly from the checkout and inquiry forms.
