What it does SolarTech Designer is a solar-energy design and calculation project that helps users understand and plan solar power systems. It focuses on estimating electrical loads, selecting suitable solar panels, batteries, inverters, and other components, while providing a practical approach to designing reliable and efficient solar systems. How we built it We built SolarTech Designer by combining electrical engineering knowledge with solar-system design principles. We focused on understanding the user's energy requirements, calculating system capacity, selecting appropriate components, and organizing the information into a simple and practical workflow. The project was developed with the goal of making solar-system planning easier to understand and more accessible. Challenges we ran into One of the main challenges was making sure the calculations and component selection were practical and technically consistent. Solar systems depend on several factors, including energy consumption, available sunlight, battery capacity, inverter requirements, and system losses. Another challenge was presenting technical information in a way that is understandable to both technical and non-technical users

What's next for SolarTech Designer Our next goal is to improve SolarTech Designer into a more complete solar-design platform. Future improvements could include automated load calculations, solar-panel and battery sizing, inverter recommendations, system-cost estimation, downloadable system reports, interactive diagrams, and a user-friendly interface. We also want to continue improving the project based on feedback from users and the hackathon community

I’m excited to share the latest progress on SolarTech Designer, a project focused on making solar system planning and design more accessible, practical, and efficient. What’s New • Improved solar system calculation workflow • Better organization of system design information • Focus on accurate load and battery sizing calculations • Continued development of a user-friendly design experience • Preparing the project for further testing and demonstrations Why I’m Building It Solar system design requires careful calculations for loads, batteries, panels, inverters, and overall system capacity. SolarTech Designer aims to help simplify this process and support better solar design decisions. Next Steps I’m continuing to improve the project, test new features, document the development process, and prepare future demonstrations and releases. This is an ongoing project, and I’m excited to keep building, learning, and improving SolarTech Designer.
