Inspiration
I always wanted to learn how to use Unity and thought this hackathon could be an excellent start for learning it, so I first set my project to be a Unity game. Then, by thinking about the applications of AI, I thought about creating an educational chatbot based on the space theme so that AI could be an excellent source for education.
What it does
It aims to provide an immersive experience with the solar system, like providing some visual cues to the size, distance, layout, etc., of the solar system. There would also be an AI-powered astronomical assistant that chats with you.
How I built it
First, I learned a series of tutorials about Unity and then looked for suitable APIs and assets. Constrained by time limit, I only implemented the most important features to give an idea of the functionality.
Challenges I ran into
It turns out that the Unity system was more handy than I previously thought, and I had to cut my goals to achieve it in a limited time amount.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Though it's not as fancy as I previously planned, it's achieving its most important functionalities, and I'm proud that I could learn to use new tools in a few hours.
What I learned
I gained proficiency in OpenAI API and initiated my Unity journey, learning the importance of prioritizing essential tasks.
What's next for SolarQuest
I can add many things -- I want it to be a gamified experience for learning about the solar system. For example, I'm considering making it a 3D game that shows the size, layout, and physics of a real solar system. There will be space missions and even alien encounters throughout the journey, and the AI assistant will update you with information about your current locations and things you want to learn.
