Inspiration

When we started working, we knew education was the topic we were leaning towards. How, what, why, and when were questions that would concern us much later. Solar was inspired by our own struggles as college students. Procrastination, Laziness, and Lack of Motivation often cause us to miss our classes and which in turn causes our grades to fall. Furthermore, due to such issues, we have also developed horrible time management and organization. However, everything will change once Solar comes into play.

What it does

Solar is an application that helps you manage your time, understand your schedule, and helps you organize a checklist. As college students, we always suffer from the issue of missing our classes due to the fact that we forgot we had a class, or maybe just had the timings wrong. With Solar, you won't ever miss a class, unless you genuinely wanted to. Solar also has an inbuilt checklist, that helps you keep track of things, and once you are done, it automatically removes the completed work from your checklist.

How we built it

We initially thought java or python would be a great way to start it. However, we ran into the issue that, displaying that information in a human-friendly UI/UX would be rather difficult and therefore we chose HTML, CSS, and JS. We first went through the process of brainstorming and found many possible ways to solve the issue, but the biggest question was "can it be done in 24 hours". Knowing very well that HTML and CSS were the most efficient way to go. We chose it and began working on it. We divided the work and completed each segment as soon as possible.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge we ran into was that we started on a different idea initially, unfortunately, spent 6 hours combating that issue but realized it was just wasting time, so we chose to change our gears. The issue was that we were now 6 hours behind and nothing even started for our new solution. What made it worse was that everyone was exhausted and working when you are exhausted is tiring on its own and it's even worse when you know you need to finish it quickly.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

An accomplishment that we are proud of apart from being able to submit a project, is that we had fun, and enjoyed the journey. We gave it our best, and we did it together, we didn't fight, and we didn't waste time. We were all understanding, mature, and worked harder for Solar. Furthermore, Solar is not just an application for the Hoohacks hackathon, but rather a child that we created, and hopefully, someday it can shine in the light it deserves to be in.

What we learned

We learned a lot of things, as a group we learned to accept each other's flaws, correct each other, work together, and understand each other, and more than anything as a group we learned how to grow together. Apart from the group, we for the first time learned how to make an application that intends to solve an issue within a span of 24 hours, and although we had technical difficulties such as not being able to obtain a domain, or not having enough time to find a way through which we can store the data and use it again.

What's next for Solar

We plan to take this far beyond just times, schedules, and planners. We want to make Solar, an application that all students use for everything, from communication to cross-checking their information, and even plagiarism. In the future, we hope to inbuild AI and ML to enhance the application so students can be saved from issues occurring from chatGPT, and other AIs. Finally, we hope to utilize this app to make this world a better place, and we will do this by providing quality education to countries in need and making Solar a global app, that is the one-stop destination for all college students. If possible, we would also love to explore sectors such as elementary, middle, and high school entities.
