Inspiration
The hackathon theme being "Launch" and the team studied Physics (+ Computer Science students), we wanted to make something interactive and aesthetically pleasing!
What it does
Information website showing the planets orbiting the sun, the planets are clickable and take you to a page with information on probes related to that planet. There is also a Gemini chatbot that receives user questions about the space probes.
How we built it
Used HTML, javascript, css and piskel for the images.
Challenges we ran into
Tried to use NASA's Horizon API to relay live location data for current probes but the API is quite specific with names and formats, so it was not working. Issues with Gemini API receiving questions. We have also never made a website before so we were learning everything from scratch as we go!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Getting the planets to orbit (orbital parameters are accurately scaled (logarithmic for distances, sped up periods), we did the maths) and making them clickable to open a new page.
What we learned
We learned so much more about web design, animations, APIs.
What's next for Solar System Probes Website
Coming back to our live location information, adding more probes, fixing the window resizing issue, working on the Gemini API chatbot.
