Inspiration

We were inspired by the growing importance of renewable energy and the challenges of maintaining solar panels efficiently. Small faults can reduce panel performance, so we wanted to create a fun, immersive VR experience that lets players understand and fix solar panel faults while exploring hand-based VR interactions.

What it does

Solar Guardian is a VR experience for Meta Quest devices where players use hands or controllers to identify and repair faults on solar panels. Four interactive faults Dirty Surface, Loose Wire, Dead Cell, and Another Fault appear on the panel. Players grab, clean, or snap objects into place, simulating real-life solar maintenance. The game provides visual feedback and a simple score UI to track progress, combining education with entertainment How we built it

Built in Unity 6 VR Core Template, using XR Interaction Toolkit / Meta Quest building blocks.

Used pre-built VR hands and grab interactions for natural gameplay.

Replaced template objects with custom cubes representing faults.

Configured Snap Zones to simulate correct placement of objects.

Minimal scripting was needed; all interactions rely on XR Grab Interactable events.

Added a simple in-VR UI to display score and progress.

Challenges we ran into

Custom scripts initially caused errors in the VR Core template.

Ensuring cubes/faults were fully interactable with both hand tracking and controllers.

Positioning objects naturally in VR so beginners could reach and fix them
