Inspiration

Have you ever felt nervous about walking into a bank? We took that feeling and flipped it on its head. Inspired by Capital One’s innovative cafes—which blend a relaxed coffee shop atmosphere with essential banking services—and dynamic pricing models seen in places like CKTL bars, we envisioned a space where your daily cup of coffee transforms into an interactive market experience. Thus, the CapitalOne Coffee Exchange was born—a place where coffee prices fluctuate in real time based on supply, demand, weather, and more.

What it does

CapitalOne Coffee Exchange isn’t just a coffee shop—it’s an interactive trading platform for coffee. Our app displays live coffee "indices," price trends, and candlestick charts, making each cup’s price as dynamic as a stock ticker. An AI-driven pricing engine automatically adjusts prices in real time based on sales data, inventory levels, weather conditions, holidays, and other factors. Plus, features like virtual coffee futures games, market alerts for those “bottom-fishing” moments, personalized drink recommendations, community forums, and financial tips make the experience engaging and fun.

How we built it

We built the platform using modern front-end and back-end technologies. On the front end, we designed an interface that mimics a bustling trading floor—with real-time charts and dynamic price bars. On the back end, we integrated machine learning models and big data analytics to power our AI pricing engine, which continuously gathers and analyzes diverse data streams. We also developed additional features, such as virtual coffee futures and personalized recommendations, to create a comprehensive and interactive user experience.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was integrating real-time data from various sources to ensure our pricing was both accurate and responsive. Tuning the AI model to factor in elements like weather changes, holidays, and sudden shifts in demand required extensive testing and iteration. Additionally, balancing a sophisticated financial interface with a warm, inviting coffee shop vibe was a complex design challenge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re incredibly proud of creating a platform that seamlessly merges cutting-edge financial technology with the everyday pleasure of coffee. Successfully implementing real-time market visualizations, an AI-powered pricing engine, and engaging interactive features—such as virtual coffee futures and personalized recommendations—has exceeded our expectations. The positive feedback on our community and financial tips further validates our vision.

What we learned

Throughout this project, we deepened our understanding of real-time data visualization, AI and machine learning applications in dynamic pricing, and user-centric design. We learned how to integrate diverse data sources to create a responsive system and the importance of iterative testing in refining both our algorithms and our user interface.

What's next for BrewStock

Looking ahead, we plan to evolve BrewStock by incorporating even more immersive AR experiences and advanced personalization features. We’re exploring integration with external financial data feeds and expanding our community platform to enable users to share insights and strategies. Our goal is to further blur the lines between everyday coffee culture and the dynamic world of financial markets, empowering you with real-time market insights—one cup at a time.
