Inspiration: I was Inspired by works like Sin City.
SOLACE NOIR Is a mystery thriller based in the neon City of Solace. A metropolitan, plagued by poor governance and crime. In a world where humans, animalians and supernatural entities co-exist.
We follow the story of Detective Franco Richi. One of the SCPDs top investigators. After a 6 month period on administrative leave he returns and finds himself embroiled in a series of cryptic murders.
The case, a dark secret and the media threaten to unravel him.
What it does:
its a short series ive been building, adapted from material written in a Discord Roleplay server. Initially I did it to bring members from our server cinematic media to supplement the narrative and visualise/realise our stories.
How we built it
The story is written independently. I simply built a visual style to showcase the characters, stories and struggles they face.
- First by storyboarding.
- Then developing character refferences to use. - Developing starting frames: there is a general battle using A.I (specifically ChatGPT) to build scenes and environments from my storyboarding to create starting frames.
- Prompt development: using the starting frame; I discuss with A.I framing options, techniques. Consider camera movements, subject actions and lighting and motion.
- Generation: I used Kling 2.5 mostly, and for more complex shots, Id use the End Frame feature in Kling 2.1. Editing: Was all done on CapCut Mobile. Easy tool and cheap.
Challenges we ran into:
limits of A.I models. Often fighting with implicit A.I biases (particularly with framing and composition) when developing the starting frames for later video generation. That and the quirks and nuances of the various A.I image to video models.
Accomplishments that we're proud of:
I feel much pride in the product I've produced. I enjoy it immensely despite only being an enthusiast. Learning about cinematography as a entry level artist is eye opening.
What we learned:
Finding a good workflow that worked for me. Also learnt that motion, light and framing are so underrated. Simple cinematic tricks that go unnoticed.
What's next for Solace Noir - Franco’s Revery
Likely will build more going forward and with new A.I development, it will only get better and faster.
