Inspiration

We have a vested interest in developing Solace, since we’re not building it for some unknown users that we’ve read about on the internet - we’re building it for our peers, our friends who’ve been put through the scary situation of having an STI and not knowing how to move forward. We appreciate you taking the time to read our solution, and hope you enjoy our demo!

What it does

Solace provides users with a simple interface to navigate seamlessly through a conversation about their sexual health concerns - receiving a page of suggestions and resources to guide their next steps. And this entire process takes under five minutes. The chatbot offers a unique way for the user to overcome their fear of judgment, as they’re speaking to a secure chatbot. By guiding the user through a conversation, the chatbot has the ability to discreetly gather the information it needs to provide recommendations to the user, without bombarding the user with questions about their sexual behavior, symptoms, and background. Then, using the OpenAI API and django framework, we extract the information from a database and populate our action plan with it. The technical complexity of the AI chatbot and extraction process is veiled by the simple interface, allowing Solace to have the best of both worlds.

How we built it

We built our app in Django and used OpenAI prompts to work our chatbot. Challenges we ran into

We originally made our application extremely complex, filled with different bells and whistles at every turn. But through many mentor meetings, we simplified our idea and ended up with Solace.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We got the chatbot to work! And our extraction process was painful to complete, but we managed to get it done in the nick of time.

What we learned

We learned about the immense prospects of generative AI and how we can use it to introduce simplicity to a very complex field.

What's next for Solace

For one, we plan to partner with Social Media influencers, as well as classrooms/colleges!

Additionally, to not skip a beat with implementation, we hope to continue working with professionals within the AI and STI space on developing our prototype. Working with mentors throughout this hackathon really simplified and bettered our initial concept, and we would like to continue making this application more useful after this hackathon.
