Inspiration

We want to build a play-to-enjoy game on the Solana blockchain. We are inspired by attractive classic space trading games as Elite. We also want to keep the classic-game feeling, with simple graphics, isometric projections and internal mini-games. We intend to be an interesting, attractive adventure, trying to engage the user's imagination, and becoming an enjoyable game, but more in the sense of an enjoyable book keeping simple graphics and engaging the user's imagination, and not try to be a full visual 3d game, something we associate with “movies”. We intend to be a very interesting book adventure, not a movie.

What it does

The game takes the user to an adventure. After being expelled from Terra, by the centralized government, our player starts in the decentralized periphery building their own commercial empire. Within the game the user can rent or buy mining equipment, facilities & starships. Each planet has its own internal market, based on local resources, and our player must advance by mining basic materials and traveling to other planets where the demand and prices are higher. He can also buy in other planets to bring into his current location and sell with profit. We intend to include internal mini-games, for example in the style of “Factorio” in order to deploy mining equipment and production facilities, and even simpler mechanisms in the style of “Universal Paperclips” or “Cookie clicker”. We intend to keep the game “fresh” by introducing new mini-games periodically.

How we built it

We focused on designing the story and a simple web-based user interface. We intend to use Solana programs to manage every planet’s market, the basic elements as SPL-tokens, use NFTs for renting equipment’s, facilities and spacecraft, and also sell/buy the same game elements as NFTs

Challenges we ran into

Designing a complex story and including some mini-games while remaining Web based requires large efforts and the time allotted for the hackathon was not enough. Right now the game is a WIP.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

An attractive story, and an open structure letting the players enjoy a game while getting trained in markets, trading and NFTs.

What we learned

Complex, extensive projects require a multidisciplinary team and a longer time than we planned for. We were able to compose a multidisciplinary team that complemented each other perfectly to develop the project.

What's next for SOL Sector

Incorporate internal mini-games in the style of “Factorio” in order to deploy mining equipment in the user’s owned parcels, and also engaging mechanisms in the style of “Universal Paperclips” or “Cookie clicker” for the initial extraction of elements (Tokens) or the production of goods (NFTs)
