Inspiration

We wanted to prove the world through sustainability; however, lack of self-accountability when making new habits makes the job harder to stick with it. This app helps create better habits for the environment along with the future option for tracking mental and physical health and studying.

What it does

This app is a visualization of our habits and keeps track of the continuous progress that is made. Tips to help improve your lowest scoring area are provided as we work to support you in making a better tomorrow and a healthier you.

How we built it

The graphics were composed in Microsoft's Paint 3D and were rendered in the browser with Babylon.JS. The front-end and back end were implemented with HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript.

Challenges we ran into

One of the challenges that we faced was handling massive 3D graphics files and rendering them within the browser. However, after several hours of lost work, a handful of blue screens of death, and several incredibly long render failures later, we successfully integrated our 3D graphics with our web application.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the layout, design, and graphics of our web application - the planning and implementation of these components took up the vast majority of our allotted 24-hour time period.

What we learned

The one most important thing we learned was to save files early and often.

What's next for SOL

We have several exciting features planned for SOL, one of which being the ability to make galaxies with your friends’ sol systems to help track collective progress. Gamification makes continuous use of the app easier. We also plan on adding more planets such as a study planet, mental health planet, and physical health planet for each new version/ update of the app. Lastly, basic accounts have only the eco-planet and/or other basic version of new planets - we plan for premium users to have different skins for planets and increased customization options.
