About the Project

Inspiration

As founders, we’ve experienced firsthand the chaos of managing endless meetings, emails, and tasks. We realized this is a universal problem for professionals and startups alike. That’s why we built Sassy, a 24/7 AI-powered assistant designed to automate the mundane and let you focus on what really matters. Everything you see here was built from scratch during the ElevenLabs Hackathon, using only widely available open-source technologies and public APIs.

What it does

Sassy is your virtual executive assistant that integrates with Google Calendar to manage your schedule and Google Docs to automatically create professional presentations. You can also talk to Sassy directly via the web using LiveKit, which powers real-time, natural voice interactions. We’re currently working on integrating WhatsApp, so users can send voice notes and chat with Sassy on the go. Every feature was developed during the hackathon, and we’re proud to showcase it here.

How we built it

We built Sassy entirely during the hackathon, leveraging the following technologies:

  • Frontend: We used Lovable, built on React + Vite, to create a smooth and responsive user interface. Adjustments and manual development were done using Cursor.
  • Backend: The core logic was developed in Python, with Node.js handling specific API integrations.
  • APIs: We integrated Google Calendar API for scheduling, Google Docs API for automated presentations, LiveKit for real-time voice interactions, and ElevenLabs for realistic, human-like voice synthesis.
  • Cloud: We relied on Supabase for the database.

Challenges we ran into

Building Sassy from scratch in such a short time was no easy feat. Some of the biggest challenges we faced were:

  1. Voice latency: Ensuring Sassy’s responses were fast and natural, even with complex tasks.
  2. Platform integrations: Connecting Google Calendar and Google Docs while ensuring everything worked smoothly.
  3. Making it feel human: We didn’t want Sassy to sound like a robot. It took a lot of tweaking to get the tone and personality just right.
  4. Time constraints: Developing a fully functional product in just a few days required intense focus and teamwork.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Despite the challenges, we’re really proud of what we’ve accomplished:

  • Built from scratch: Everything you see was developed during the hackathon, with no prior work reused.
  • Seamless integrations: Sassy works effortlessly with Google Calendar and Google Docs.
  • Realistic voice: Thanks to ElevenLabs and LiveKit, Sassy sounds like a real person, not a machine.
  • User-centric design: Early testers have told us Sassy feels like a “game-changer” and would use it in their day-to-day.

What we learned

This hackathon taught us a lot, both technically and personally:

  • Balancing speed and quality: Building something functional in a short time frame required us to prioritize effectively.
  • The power of collaboration: Our team worked seamlessly together, using Discord for constant communication and problem-solving.
  • Resilience: Every bug and failed integration taught us to keep pushing forward.

What's next for Sassy

We’re just getting started. Here’s what’s next:

  1. WhatsApp integration: Allowing users to send voice notes and chat with Sassy on the go.
  2. Smarter AI: Making Sassy even better at understanding context and predicting your needs.
  3. Team features: Letting entire teams use Sassy to collaborate more efficiently.
