💡 Inspiration & Problem

Every year, millions of students, self-taught coders, and researchers hit a brick wall when encountering dense STEM equations, complex algorithms, or academic papers. Traditional textbooks jump straight into cryptic formulas without first establishing an intuitive mental model. Moreover, one-size-fits-all learning fails: a 5-year-old child, a high schooler, a CS major, and a PhD researcher need completely different explanations for the exact same concept.

We built SocraticLens AI to democratize elite 1-on-1 Socratic tutoring. It deconstructs any dense STEM topic into a step-by-step visual concept roadmap, provides dynamic cognitive depth toggling (from story analogies to mathematical proofs), offers browser-native voice tutoring, and assesses comprehension with self-scoring interactive quizzes.

🚀 What It Does & Main Features

  1. Multimodal STEM Concept Decryptor: Type any STEM topic or equation (e.g. Quantum Superposition, Transformer Attention Mechanism, Euler's Identity, CRISPR-Cas9, Dijkstra's Algorithm), and SocraticLens AI breaks it down into an interactive visual roadmap.
  2. Dynamic Cognitive Depth Multiplier: Switch explanation levels on the fly:
    • ELI5 (Child Analogy): Playful story metaphors.
    • High School: Foundational mental models.
    • Undergraduate: Formal equations, algorithmic pseudocode, and invariants.
    • Graduate Research (PhD): Asymptotic bounds, mathematical derivations, and edge cases.
  3. Browser-Native AI Voice Tutor: Integrated Web Speech API audio synthesis that narrates Socratic explanations with play/pause and speed rate controls ($0.7\times$ to $1.5\times$).
  4. Socratic Concept Roadmap & Derivation Graph: 4 progressive milestone nodes (Intuition, Mechanism, Mathematical Core, Real-World Application) featuring Mental Analogies and Socratic Key Takeaways.
  5. Interactive Self-Grading Socratic Quiz: 3 auto-generated conceptual questions with instant feedback, explanations, and celebratory confetti.
  6. Study Cheat-Sheet Exporter: 1-click export to Markdown study notes, JSON flashcards (Anki/Quizlet), and printable PDF cards.

🛠️ Tools, Languages & APIs Used

  • Frontend Framework: React 19 + TypeScript + Vite
  • Styling: Tailwind CSS 3.4 (Cyber Indigo & Violet Glassmorphism UI)
  • Audio & Accessibility: Native Web Speech API (SpeechSynthesis)
  • Interactivity: Canvas-Confetti, Lucide React Icons
  • Open-Source License: MIT License

🎯 Who It Is Built For

Built for students, educators, autodidacts, STEM enthusiasts, and software engineers who want to master complex technical concepts faster through active Socratic inquiry rather than passive memorization.
