Inspiration

With online learning and working becoming more pragmatic due to Covid, people won't get the same sense of communal competitiveness that you'd find in the workplace or at school, thus decreasing their efficiency and drive for success. With this app, we hope to motivate and increase the social interaction between users with a healthy rivalry.

What it does

A platform for people all around the world learn and work more effectively by virtually motivating one another. This is done with a work/study time tracker to efficiently set goals and keep track of their own progress. The app also provides a platform for users to share their knowledge at the cost of their choice, thus stimulating the economy.

How we built it

The designing was done with Adobe XD. The app was coded in Java using Android Studio and Firebase.

Challenges we ran into

A concern brought to our attention by our mentor was whether the app was impactful enough on the larger scale, and whether our app brought a distinctive value to the market. Having no prior experience with Adobe XD, we spent a lot of time with trial and error to figure our way around the software. We were also stalled quite a bit with authenticating Firebase, and had to refer back to the documentation many times.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Completing the app to a decent level within the time constraints provided

What we learned

We learnt to effectively communicate and the importance of distributing the workload. On the technical side of things, we learnt how to use Adobe XD for the UI design.

What's next for Socius

Better design the UI, add a group study feature and give more thought on the courses.
