Problems in India and Our Inspiration

1008 people die across the country due to cold waves

88% Menstruating women in India do not have access to sanitary products

92th Out of 107 Nations Global Hunger Index 2020

18% Population is undernourished

Our Solution

We often go to stores in the mall and after purchasing things, most of the time we link our mobile number with the company, and according to the shopping amount certain points are added to our number which can be redeemed whenever a user wants.

We aim to tie up with these companies so that instead of adding these points to the user’s company account, the user can choose to add these points to our app ‘SocioCreds’. Now, what can the users do with these credits?

We offer various services such as distributing food, providing books, and proper sanitation to the needy. Suppose distributing food costs 100 credits, the user can use his/her available credits to select this service.

Now you might wonder how will the food, books, etc actually be distributed to the people in need. We aim to tie up with NGOs for this purpose. We have made a frontend portal for the NGOs to register themselves with us. The services selected by the user will be directed to the NGOs that have the least number of requests so that there is no delay of service to the people in need. The NGOs can even start a campaign on our app to raise funds.

Lastly, how can the user trust us that service is delivered to those in need? Once the service is completed by a representative of the NGO, he/she will upload a video on the portal which will be visible to the user on the application as well.

How we built it

We built it using state of the art technologies present in the market, including Flutter, Firebase, React, NodeJS, Express, PostgreSQL and Figma

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The fact that we were able to come up with a solution, that is one of the biggest problems in countries like India. With this project we also aim to empower women by educating them and providing sanitary help. We were able to complete two mobile cross-platform applications in a short span, keeping in mind that we wanted to write extensible code. We wrote backend with unit-tests in such a way that it can also scale to support a website for NGOs as well.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge we faced was time. We had to manage with design, backend architecture, user app, admin app and promotional video. We as a team helped each other in the domains and tried to speed the progress.

What we learned

We learned a lot about clean architecture, ER diagrams, database schema. We also learned about how to build clean UI and a smooth user experience through our design.

What's next for SocioCreds

We can scale sociocreds to support a website for NGOs as well. we were able to create designs for it and backend completely supports it.

The companies must engage in Corporate Social Responsibility, therefore we believe companies will tie-up with us by allowing us to use the credits for a noble cause that would have otherwise been added to the user account. We will also provide advertising to the companies who tie up with us. Nowadays people are very much concerned about the condition of the poor people as more and more news reflect the increasing number of uneducated people, and those of malnourished, that’s why there is a soft corner in everyone’s heart towards initiatives that aims at helping those in need. Taking advantage of this soft corner, we will be able to promote our product in a much better way working on it for now!
