Inspiration
What it does## Inspiration
Understanding how people think and make decisions is a fundamental challenge in social science, business, and AI applications. Traditional surveys can collect human opinions, but they are expensive, slow, and difficult to scale.
We were inspired by the idea that AI agents could become realistic simulations of human decision-making by combining personal profiles, behavioral patterns, and advanced reasoning capabilities.
What it does
SocietySim Agent creates virtual human profiles and simulates their decisions in different scenarios.
Users can provide demographic information, background characteristics, and questions. The agent analyzes the persona and generates predictions that reflect how different individuals may think and respond.
The system helps explore questions such as:
- How would different groups of people react to a new policy?
- How do personal backgrounds influence decisions?
- Can AI help us understand large-scale human behavior?
How we built it
We built SocietySim Agent using large language models as the reasoning engine. The system combines:
- Persona modeling from demographic and behavioral information
- LLM-based reasoning for decision simulation
- Structured prompting to guide consistent human-like responses
- Evaluation methods comparing simulated decisions with real human survey data
Challenges we faced
A major challenge was balancing general AI reasoning ability with realistic human behavior. AI models often generate responses that are too rational or generic compared with real people.
We addressed this by incorporating human behavioral patterns and personalized context into the simulation process.
Future work
We hope to improve SocietySim Agent by supporting more diverse populations, integrating richer behavioral data, and building more accurate simulations of human societies.
