Inspiration

Upon learning of the hackathon prompt, I went ahead to research on social issues which could be solved through technological innovations. My research unearthed quite a number of social issues. Issues that everyone is aware of such as hunger or homelessness. However, there were issues that are less known and cause immeasurable damage, one of said issues is social isolation. Often incorrectly equated to depression, social isolation is a silent danger, creeping in over time and eventually causing massive consequences. Offering a solution, irregardless of how small, would help combat this issue.

What it does

Socially offers a host of solutions to social isolation. The user has the option of going out to vetted events made by other users which are happening in his vicinity to connect with other real life people close to him. He/she also has the option of picking an engaging hobby and sharing the joy of that hobby with other people. There also exists a blog page that offers all kind of support to the user on battling social isolation. Lastly, the user could chat with other users.

How we built it

The design and prototype for socially were achieved using figma.

Challenges we ran into

Socially was initially meant to be submitted as a website problem. However, the hackathon was discovered late and the developers were unable to develop the website in the short time frame provided and so we had to submit a prototype.

What's next for Socially

Socially would most definitely be more beneficial as an application with a lot more helpful features such as the provision of people educated in the field of social isolation to go in the app as undercover users and connect with other users to try and help them.
