Inspiration
The whole point of social networks are to bring together people. But we feel that the current shift of technology has led to the opposite phenomenon. Users tend to procrastinate, spend unproductive time, and feel a false sense of connectedness due to social app habits. If the average college student spends 6-8 hours on a computer device, then we believe this time should be constructive!
What it does
Users specify their interests and when in close proximity with a similar user, they will be notified and have the opportunity to connect with each other.
How we built it
We used Android Studio to develop the application and Firebase to store user data. Using the android location API, each client will iterate through the database to find similar users close by.
Challenges we ran into
We were mostly unfamiliar with Android Studio, so it was difficult being exposed to so much new information. Additionally, when retrieving data from FireBase, we realized we needed to "force" a dataChange so the event handler would be provoked.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
That we managed to get the GPS working using Firebase's Geofire API and learned how to use Android Studio in a short time span.
What we learned
Android and learning on the go.
