Inspiration

What it does

As explained in our elevator pitch, our application intends to assist individuals in social situations that may be uncomfortable or unfamiliar to them. Our target audience in the application primarily caters to individuals with mental disabilities (such as dementia) and individuals who need help with coping with certain social situations. This goal was achieved through the use of our diagram feature, which could be used as a checklist in certain social situations.

How we built it

This project was developed through the use of default/vanilla HTML, CSS, and Javascript (jQuery for some parts), using Node.JS and Express to serve the project to the internet.

Challenges we ran into

Developing a mobile-friendly and aesthetically minimalistic design was by far the most difficult development obstacle in this project, as we were not adept to developing for mobile. We managed to overcome this obstacle with many design trials until we arrived at one we finally liked.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud that we managed to develop a platform which allows individuals from often unrepresented groups to cope better in today's society. We believe this ties into Steel City Hacks' theme of sustainability as our project allows individuals who struggle within social situations to better sustain themselves in day-to-day activities.

What we learned

Through the development process, we learned how to develop mobile-friendly web applications that are functional across all devices. Our fundamental understanding of web technologies such as jQuery has also significantly improved due to the reading of the API documentation required by our project.
