Inspiration
The inspiration behind the Social Wellbeing Hub came from the growing need to support individuals struggling with mental health and emotional well-being. Many people face challenges with accessing the right resources or knowing where to seek when they need help. I wanted to create an easily accessible platform that enables users to perform activities that help support their mental, emotional, and financial health. With poor money management, leading to financial stress, this web app aims to address both mental health and financial literacy in one place.
What it does
Social Wellbeing Hub is a web app designed to promote mental well-being and personal growth. These features work together to help users manage their emotions, build healthy habits, and improve financial health. It includes:
- Mental Health Checker: A tool that provides users with personalized suggestions for self-care based on how they’re feeling.
- Gratitude Journal: A space for daily reflection, where users can write down things they are grateful for, helping promote mindfulness.
- Personality Quiz: A short, interactive quiz that helps users better understand their personality type.
- Financial Literacy Quiz: An educational quiz covering essential financial topics like saving, budgeting, and smart spending.
How we built it
I built Social Wellbeing Hub myself using a combination of Python and Flask for the backend, helping with the app logic. The frontend was developed using HTML for the structure and CSS for the styling, creating a clean and user-friendly interface. The app was designed to be simple, interactive, and informative. I also focused on ensuring that it is easily accessible to anyone who wants to improve their mental and financial well-being.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges I faced during this project was teaming with other participants. Initially, I reached out to other participants to team up, but when I wasn’t able to connect with anyone in time, I decided to take on the project by myself. While it was a bit overwhelming, it taught me a lot about time management, problem-solving, and perseverance. In addition, there were small technical mistakes in integrating the various features smoothly
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I’m particularly proud of the fact that I was able to build this web app on my own, despite the challenges. From. I’m also proud that the web app is not just functional, but also interactive, with personalized feedback that is aimed at improving users' well-being.
What we learned
This project has been a huge learning experience for me. I’ve learned a lot about both backend and frontend development, from managing server logic with Flask to creating user-friendly designs with HTML and CSS. In addition, I’ve understood more about mental health issues and how easily accessible resources can make a real difference. I also learned the importance of persistence and adaptability, especially because of working independently.
What's next for Social Wellbeing Hub
Moving forward, I plan to expand Social Wellbeing Hub by adding more interactive tools and resources. I hope to continue enhancing the app based on user feedback and expand its reach to a wider audience.
