Inspiration
We were inspired by the Adventure track to make a project that facilitated travel. Our team had prior experience designing and building websites, so it seemed fitting to make a website. We were also inspired by the Finch mobile app that gamifies self-care by turning tedious real-world tasks into engaging in-game objectives. We wanted to make it easier to plan get-togethers between friends, classmates, and family members.
What it does
This website allows the user to keep track of progress between tasks in order to reach the larger goal of organizing a social event.
How we built it
We used the HTML - CSS template provided by the Fullyhacks team as a very basic base to start off. We added custom art to fit the space theme. We used Github to manage version control between each team member's instance of the website.
Challenges we ran into
We had trouble making the spaceship move between the stars and the positioning and how it rotated. We also faced problems when adding a restart button after every task was finished. We tried to make the ship move backwards whenever new tasks were added, but that didn't work out which limited us to only three tasks because of positioning. The restart button pop-up also didn't want to pop up, so we had to restart our code the basic way.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of making the spaceship responsive to the tasks that are checked and unchecked to keep track of the progress.
What we learned
We gained a deeper understanding of CSS, HTML, and Javascript.
What's next for Social Spaces
In the future, we want to add multiple spaceships to track multiple people's progress simultaneously off user profiles. We also want to implement a higher capacity of tasks with spaceship movement change in progression.
